The Q&A Archives: Identifying Poppies along the NC Interstates

Question: I would like to plant some poppies similar to those seen along the highways and interstates in North Carolina. Do you know the name of the poppy? Can I order the seed from Burpee? Thank you. Van Moore Charlotte, NC

Answer: You'll have to contact your state's highway department to find out what variety of poppy they have planted. Burpee sells several varieties of poppy: Oriental poppies (a semi-dwarf that grows to 2 feet tall, and a red poppy that grows to 3 feet tall) Australian poppies (grows to about 14" tall)
