The Q&A Archives: How to Plant Very Small Seeds

Question: How do you plant a seed that is no bigger than powder? How do you, or do you, cover them with soil?

Answer: Tiny seeds are best mixed with a good amount of fine dry sand to make sowing easier. The tiniest seeds require no covering, but it would be wise to press them firmly to the seedling mix to make firm contact. Water them with a very fine misting nozzle, spraying from a distance to avoid blasting the seed away.
