In many instances it is not recommended to plant trees near a leach field as there is potential for their roots to clog the pipes and cause serious damage that is expensive to repair. However, here are some plants that appreciate a moister soil: river birch, deciduous hollies (Ilex verticillata), summersweet clethra, itea, shrubby dogwoods such as the red twigged variety, and among perennials, Siberia iris, Japanese iris, hosta, astilbe and hardy hibiscus.
