we have a dragonfly in our back yard just buzzing all around where my three year olds play, they are frightened by it. How can I encourage the dragonfly to move to another side of our yard? |
A dragonfly is really a good thing to have in the garden, even though its presence can be intimidating to youngsters. Dragonflies usually seek standing water, especially ponds, but will be attracted to puddles, too. You might try providing a source of water in a far area of the yard - a birdbath, for instance, or even and upturned trash can lid filled with water. (Of course this may attract mosquitoes, as well!) Since dragonflies feed on small insects, mosquitoes and mosquito larvae might be an okay thing in your garden. You'll have to decide. Dragonflies rarely land on people and they don't bite, so aside from their size and the buzzing noise they make, they're really nothing to be afraid of. Hope a source of water in another area of the garden works for you! |
