We have just built a home on six beautiful acres. However, we also have 100's of yucca to clear. We have removed all of the yucca by pulling them out with our tracktor and a cable. We are now seeing a hundred more little yuccas returning. How can we kill the remaining yucca without having to dig them up? Is their a poison that can be applied directly to the plant without harming the surrounding soil and buffalo grass?

Unfortunately, yucca is very difficult to control; it is very persistent with excellent recuperative qualities due in part to its incredible root system and in part to its somewhat impervious foliage. These same characteristics contribute to its ability to survive in the unique growing conditions found in your area. For these reasons, too, you need to think carefully about how you plan to manage your acreage. You might wish to consult with your county extension (688-3096) for help and advice about your various option. Enjoy your new home!
