The Q&A Archives: Resource for Gardening Information in FL

Question: We just got our first catalog from Burpee and we are in SW Florida and looked in questions and answers for our zone 10 but not all plants tell us if they will grow well here. Is there anything on this area that we need before we buy plants that won't work? We are new to gardening. Thank you. Sherri Wood Sarasota, FL

Answer: Probably the best place to look for gardening information in Florida would be the Cooperative Extension Service. The county office number is 813-951-4240. They should have gardening pamphlets and books that will tell you what to plant in your area and when.
