What's the date range for planting a perennial garden? |
Bare root plants are usually planted in very early spring when they become available, but container grown plants can be planted from spring through fall. Early spring and very early fall are typically the preferred times for planting. Planting too late in the fall does not allow enough time for the plants to become securely rooted before the freeze and thaw cycles begin. The resulting heaving ground can dislodge the plants. Planting in mid summer causes undue heat stress but can be accomplished successfully if you are very careful about watering. |
