What is the best way to store cabbage for winter. We have access to a root cellar, but it has a cement ceiling (constantly drips water) so is quite damp. We are not sure if this is an acceptable place for storing cabbage or not. How should it be wrapped, etc.? |
Cabbage can be stored for up to 5 months in a cold and moist environment. This means 32 to 40 degrees F, with 95 percent humidity. Place the veggies in perforated bags to promote air circulation. I think if you keep the cabbage off the floor and protected from being directly dripped on, the root cellar should work. Don't store any cabbage that are damaged or scarred as they quickly rot and spoil others. Good luck! |
