| It depends on the type of bulb, as the mature plants need different amounts of space. Here is info from Flowering Bulbs for Dummies by Judy Glattstein on the number of bulbs to plant per square foot: tulips 8-12, hyacinths 5-7, daffodils 5-7, crocuses 10-15, lilies 3-5, caladium 1-3, canna 1, dahlia 1, gladiola 3-7.
