I have 2 large areas to plant bulbs in. One is 63 feet long by 4 feet wide. Is there a formula I can use to figure out approximately how many bulbs I will need?

It depends on the type of bulb, as the mature plants need different amounts of space. Here is info from Flowering Bulbs for Dummies by Judy Glattstein on the number of bulbs to plant per square foot:

tulips 8-12, hyacinths 5-7, daffodils 5-7, crocuses 10-15, lilies 3-5, caladium 1-3, canna 1, dahlia 1, gladiola 3-7. Good luck on your bulb garden!
