I planted zoysia grass between stepping stones in my walk. The weeds grow in the grass as if it is dirt, but they are very hard to pull out. Is there something that will kill the weeds without killing the zoysia? The weeds are Bermuda grass and spotted spurge, among others. What I thought was going to be low maintenance is turning into a nightmare! Thanks for your help.

I wish there were an easy answer for you! While control of turf weeds varies with the species involved, the single, most used and best weed control method is growing a dense and persistent cover of turfgrasses. Feed your zoysia grass with a 1/2 inch of compost near spring and another 1/2 inch in the late fall. It is very unusual for weeds to get established in zoysia grass, since it grows so densely. Perhaps you need to add more plugs to the areas worst affected. One weeding should do the trick. Good luck!
