My name is Mike I am 12 years old ,and this year I grew about a seven foot tall sunflower from one of your Burpee seeds. I was wondering if its possible to hybrid seeds at your own house. Also does it matter what the two plants are? Thanks for the sunflower. |
Glad you enjoyed your sunflower! You can certainly hybridize at home. For example, some famous seed strains including favorite heirloom tomatoes were created by gardeners working at home. It does matter what plants you use. Some hybrids will not breed true (the progeny do not resemble the parent at all) and some hybrids will not even produce viable seed. You will need to research the particular plant you are interested in to see where to start or be willing to experiment and see what happens. Good luck with your hybridizing! |
