I am starting my very first flower garden. I was wondering what are the best flowers and trees to plant in the fall? |
As a rule of thumb, deciduous plants seem to do fine planted in fall, evergreens are better planted in the spring. In a more practical sense, you will find a reduced availability of plants in the fall and this may dictate your planting time. Container grown plants can be planted any time the ground is not frozen, but early spring and early fall are preferred times. Dormant bare root stock is usually only available in the spring and that is when it should be planted, so it can come out of dormancy as the season progresses. Spring blooming bulbs are planted in the fall. |
