When is the best time, in the spring time, to remove the straw mulch from my strawberry plants. Thanks |
This is a tough question and depends ont he weather each year. You need to remove it gradually to avoid shocking the plantsand keep it close at hand in case a frost threatens. The plants themselves are able to take the cold, so the mulch is there to protect the buds and blossoms and thus the berry crop. It also helps the plants stay firmly rooted by moderating the freezing, thawing and subsequent frost heaving action of the ground. |
