The Q&A Archives: Frost on Squash

Question: Will the frost hurt my butternut or acorn squash?

Answer: Frost will kill off the vines, and a freeze may damage the rinds and affect the storage qualities of the squash. Light frost should not hurt them too much in this regard as long as the squash are already ripened and the rinds have hardened sufficiently. If the squash are not yet ripe they will not keep well regardless.
