| Could you provide the scientific name for cantaloupes grown in the USA? There is some confusion here regarding muskmelons and cantaloupes. Apparantly they are referred to differently in Europe. |
| Kevin, There is confusion regarding canteloupes and muskmelons. These two are closely related but different. True Canteloupes (Cucumis melo var. cantaloupensis) are not commonly grown in the U.S.A. They have deeply grooved fruit with a hard, warty or scaly rind and orange or green flesh. Muskmelons (Cucumis melo var. reticulatus) are the netted, aromatic melons (muskmelons) and Persian melons.
