The Q&A Archives: Straw In Garden Soil

Question: I am prepairing my for the end of the season,is
it ok to till in some straw? I had heard somewhere not to
use straw.

Answer: Straw is fine as a source of organic matter as a soil amendment but it may jam up your tiller somewhat unless it has rotten down a bit. You should also look into running some basic soil tests to see what other amendments your soil might (or might not) need for the coming season.
