I have a garden type Peonie. After the flowers have gone by, do I have to prune or cut it back before Winter? |
Peonies should be tidied after frost has killed back the tops. When frost has turned the stems and leaves brown, trim them away by cutting them at the base. Then remove the debris. This limits the chance of any disease or pest carrying over to next year. You should also deadhead the plants in early summer. This consists of removing the faded flowers but leaving as much foliage on the plants as possible. |
