The Q&A Archives: Calla Lilly Bulbs

Question: I purchased a calla lilly bulb last Spring, planted it(in a pot indoors) and only the leaves came up, no flowers. How do I care for the bulb over the winter? Thank you.

Answer: There is a natural resting period that callas go through during the fall, when the leaves should wither and dry up. At that point, gradually slack of watering, and allow it to rest for 3-4 months. Repot it in fresh, rich potting soil (make sure to place the rhizomes 4-6" deep), and resume feeding and watering.

Callas need ample water and nutrients in order to bloom, so during the growing season make sure you provide it with both.
