| Cool season lawn grasses will continue to grow in cool weather. Under ordinary conditions you probably would not need to be watering in the late fall. A new lawn however might need to be watered to keep the soil evenly moist until it freezes. You would not want to water to keep it soggy, however. The best way to water is to water deeply, then wait until the soil is dry to water again. This encourages the roots to grow deep where the soil naturally stays moister longer. This also means you may need to dig down and see if the soil is moist or dry below the surface and then water if needed. After watering you will also want to dig down to see if you have applied enough. |
