I am doing a 7th grade science fair project titled "Will Insecticides Effect the Germination of a Seedling." For my project I am testing your Crimson Giant Radish Seeds. I was hoping you had advice for the best brand or form of insecticide for the best germination results for my radishes. I also heard that using bleach on the seeds would help rid the seeds of "germs". Is this true? Any tips on this matter would be greatly appreciated. |
Bleach is a powerful disinfectant and is often used in solution to clean seed starting tools. It would not generally be used on the seeds themselves however. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any tests on the value of insecticide for radish seed germination; under modern Integrated Pest Management methods, insecticide would only be used in a situation where a known pest was present and in sufficient quantity to require control. Seed germination is most directly affected by moisture and temperature as well as its quality and the conditions under which it has been stored prior to planting. I hope this is helpful to you in your project. |
