The Q&A Archives: Hardy Northern Tomato Varieties

Question: I am looking for a very hardy northern tomato plant that is disease resistant, and where in my area can I purchase such a plant ? Debbie Russo Conneaut, OH

Answer: I'd try 'Early Cascade' or 'Siletz' tomatoes as hardy tomatoes that should grow well for you. Seeds are available through Johnny's Selected Seeds, Foss Hill Rd., Albion, ME 04910, 207-437-4301, It's probably too late to start seeds in your area, so I'd check local garden centers for 'Early Girl, 'Celebrity' or 'Better Boy' varieties. These all are common varieties that should grow well in Ohio, although they aren't as cold hardy as the first two I mentioned.
