The Q&A Archives: Hosta: Annual Or Perennial?

Question: Are Hosta's annuals or perennials? And what do we do with them for the winter?

Answer: Hostas are considered perennials, meaning they will come up every year. In general, individual plants are also very long lived. In the fall, allow the foliage to die down naturally and apply several inches of organic mulch around the plants. In spring you will see the new foliage emerge through the mulch.
