We just bought a house and on the property is an established asparagas bed. Should we cut back the plants, or just leave it alone? Is there anything special we should do to help it through the north country winters? Thank you.

Asparagus should be cut back very short after frost has browned the tops. The plants can be mulched heavily for the winter using organic mulch, compost or well rotted manure; these will break down over time and help feed the soil. This is important since the plants are heavy feeders in addition to being very long lived.
