My grandma gave me canna seeds of her canna plants. Last year I had tried growing them in soil and soaking them in water, nothing worked. My question is How do you get canna seed to germinate and grow?? |
Canna seeds should be placed on the surface of the soil and not covered with soil. The soil should be moistened and the container covered with plastic wrap to maintain a humid environment. Place the container in a bright location (but out of direct sun) and keep the soil temperature near 75 degrees. (This may require some gentle bottom heat.) It may take as long as two months for the seeds to germinate. Fresh seeds also germinate better than old seeds. Cannas are most often propagated by dividing the rhizome, and this method also assures that the new plant is the same as the parent. |
