| I'VE NEGLECTED MY ROSES LAST SUMMER FOR LACK OF TIME. I HAVE DRIP ON ALL MY ROSES, AND THIS KEPT THE ROSES FROM DRYING-UP. I LIVE IN A VERY HOT PLACE, LAS VEGAS AND MY PLANTS WERE QUITE AFFECTED BY THIS. I NOTICED THAT MY PLANTS WERE TURNING YELLOW SO I DECIDED TO APPLY THE MIRACLE GROW IN LIQUIED FORM AS DIRECTED,ON NOV 1,2000. MY PLANTS CONTINUED TO SHOW SIGNS OF YELLOWING SO I DECIDED TO APPLY SOME IRON IN LIQUID FORM LAST NOV 7,2000. MY QUESTION IS: WHEN DO I APPLY TH E MIRACLE GROW AGAIN? I USE THE NON-CLOG APPLICATOR FOR MIRACLE GROW FERTILIZER. |
| Actually, it's late in the season to be applying fertilizer to roses. You don't want to stimulate new tender growth which is susceptible to frost. Roses should be allowed to go into dormancy to better withstand the winter. Wait to apply until temperatures start to warm in the spring. Yellowing can be caused by many things, including improper watering. Be sure to let your drip run long enough so the water penetrates the entire root zone, usually to a depth of 2 feet for roses. Also, apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base of the plants to retain soil moisture, especially in summer. During their active growing season (spring up to the heat of summer, and again in fall until the weather turns cold), roses can be fertilized about every 6 weeks to promote bloom.
