i WANT TO GIVE MY FATHER SOME REBLOOMING IRIS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY ON 12/1. WOULD I BE FOOLISH TO DIG SOME UP FROM MY GARDEN AND IF I DID, WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST MATERIAL TO PUT THEM IN AND WHEN SHOULD HE REPLANT THEM? I LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA AND HE LIVES IN CINNCINNATI. THANK YOU! |
Unfortunately, late fall is not a good time at all to transplant these plants and in my experience it is very difficult to dig and store them at home over the winter successfully. They are best moved in summer after the first bloom period, or possibly in very early spring. Maybe you could send him a picture of the iris in a December birthday card with an "IOU" and then follow up with the plants in a few months. |
