Bush limas (Phaseolus lunatas) are grown much as any other bean, needing full sun, adequate fertility and a moist yet well drained soil. They do prefer warm temperatures, however, and grow best in hot summer areas. The soil should be about 75 degrees at planting. In a northern area you would look for a variety that matures relatively early rather than a longer season type. I hope this answers your question.
