| I have an upright fuchsia that I would like to bring indoors and treat as a houseplant. Is this possible, or does it need dormancy to thrive? Any advice you can give me on its overwintering is very much appreciated. |
| Tree fuchsia's will go dormant in the winter months. It's important to keep them in a cool area with lots of light during this resting period. It isn't necessary to cut the wood back at the top of the plant, but do remove any green leaves, and stop regular watering. The plant will rest nicely in an unheated garage as long as it's not completely dark (place it near a window where it will get light, but not direct sunshine). In the spring you'll notice buds beginning to swell on the stems. Begin watering regularly and move the plant into bright light. When the weather warms up you can take your plant back outdoors.
