We have been looking for the perfect hedge material. The hedge will be approximately 19 feet long, and we would like it to be 5 to 6 feet high with in a couple of years (or so).The hedge also has to be narrow, 2 feet or less. So when our nursery received a new plant 'Green Spire Euonymus'. Visually the shrub is everything we want. However, your tag indicates that it will grow to 6 to 8 ft tall which is great, but the nursery says it will only grow to 3 to 4 ft tall. No one can give the answer why. To the nursery it is a new shrub. They deferred to the experts. We are on the Columbia River which causes the weather to be a bit more caustic than the rest of the Northwest, west of the Cascade Mountain Range. Please let me know if this euonymus is a new plant and will it grow to 6 to 8 ft? |
Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' is also sold as 'Emerald Towers', which gives a pretty good indication of the mature height of the plant. Euonymus japonicus ?Green Spire? has bright glossy green leaves and a multi-stemmed, columnar habit, growing to 8' tall. You might consider Euonymus japonicus ?Rykujo? instead. It's a dwarf upright; stems hold dark green leaves which often bear flecks of cream and gold. It is a tight grower reaching 2-3? and is a recent introduction. Hope the above information helps you decide which plant to grow! |
