How can you tell how much of each vegetable you need to plant for your family size and to be able to have some to can and freeze too.Is there a chart to go by??? Thanks in advance for your help! Have a great day! Tammy Barbery

The Missouri Cooperative Extension offers a chart showing amounts to plant for both fresh eating and processing.

Do keep in mind though that this would only be a suggestion and that actual amounts will depend on your family's preferences, likes and dislikes as well as appetite so experience will be your best guide. If you are new to vegetable gardening, especially, I would suggest you begin with a partial or conservative estimate and then expand from year to year. I hope this helps you with your planning.
