| My sago palm is outdoors all year, it is in a container, and it is only a foot tall. There is afternoon shade in the summer. What would cause the yellowish streaks on the individual needles? Most of the streaks are on the middle part of the needle not the ends. |
| Sounds to me as though your plant may need feeding. Yellowing mid-veins can be a sign of poor nutrition. The frequent watering containerized plants need can leach nutrients from the soil in a hurry. Try feeding (1/4 strength dilution of a balanced liquid fertilizer) everytime you water your palm. If you're feeding on a regular schedule, then turn the leaves over and inspect (with a magnifying glass if possible) for spider mites. These tiny critters suck fluids out of plant tissues. Spider mites thrive under dry conditions. You can wash them off with insecticidal soap, then keep them at bay by spraying the undersides of the leaves every week or two. Good luck with your palm! |
