YOU HAVE A PRODUCT IN YOUR CATALOG--IT'S A METAL FRAME WITH SHELVES AND A PLASTIC COVER AND IT SAYS IT IS GOOD FOR STARTING PLANTS. I LIVE IN NEW YORK, SOUTHERN ERIE COUNTY A FEW MILES FROM LAKE ERIE. WILL I BE ABLE TO START SEEDS ON MY DECK IF I USE THIS OR WILL IT NOT BE WARM ENOUGH? I HAVE A HARD TIME STARTING SEEDS IN THE HOUSE BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A BRIGHT ENOUGH AREA. I AM LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION SO THAT I CAN GROW MY OWN PLANTS BECAUSE I FIND IT EXTREMELY REWARDING GROWING RIGHT FROM SEED, BUT I DON'T HAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO DO SO. IF THIS WOULDN'T WORK, DO YOU HAVE A SUGGESTION THAT MIGHT?

Unless it is heated, any type of cold frame arrangement will not be warm enough for seeds started very early. In my experience, these work very well for hardening off plants, however. It is usually better to start the seeds under lights (you can use a shop light with one warm and one cool bulb, for instance) and then use the cold frame to acclimate the resulting plants to the outdoors prior to planting them in the garden.
