We cleaned out the strawberry bed yesterday and took up the plants which had become established outside the row from runners. My son would like to have some of the plants to start a bed but can't get them for several days. What is the best way to keep these plants healthy until he can get them to plant?

Monty,

Don't leave them in water for too many days. The roots need oxygen to survive. Set them in a shallow trench and cover the roots with moist soil. They will hold that way for a couple of weeks or more.
