There are many plants that will do very well in your area. To make a selection, you will need to analyze the growing conditions in your yard (eg light, soil, wind, moisture) and then narrow down your options. You might want to take a look at a book or two about gardening and landscaping to help you get started. One I like is "Gardening for Dummies" ISBN 1-56884-644-4 because it is very straightforward.
