| I have a Lakeview Jasmine plant that seems to be doing very well. It almost always has blossoms on it, and grows new leaves and offshoots. But now, for the third time, perfectly healthy looking leaves are dropping off very quickly in large numbers! I am noticing that this happens during a time when there are lots of flowers starting to bloom, and lots of new leaves growing. Is this normal? Or should I be concerned? It just doesn't seem right that my floor is covered with healthy, green leaves! I would appreciate any insights you have. Thanks! |
| Dropping leaves can be somewhat alarming, but if your plant is flowering and developing new leaves, I suspect it is a natural process to be shedding some of the older leaves. Evergreen plants keep their leaves an average of 3 years. So, if the leaves that are dropping off are the older ones, it's natural. It takes a lot of energy to produce new flowers and leaves. Sounds like your jasmine is simply shedding the older leaves in favor of producing new flowers and leaves. Along with the natural shedding process your plant may be announcing its discomfort from overly dry indoor air, a common problem during the winter months. Try misting the leaves regularly to increase humidity around the plant, or placing the pot in a pebble filled tray in which you keep about a half inch of water. As the water evaporates it will increase humidity around the plant. |
