I have a steep southeast-facing slope behind my home. This slope is mostly sand and gets full sun all afternoon. It is too large an area to amend with organic material but I can water it. What type of ground cover would you suggest? There is lots of room here so a fast grower would be preferred. |
A sandy soil drains very quickly, so it is really better, if at all possible, to add some organic matter to it. A layer of organic mulch will also help reduce watering and erosion, control weeds, and feed the soil as it breaks down. Some plants to try might include spreading junipers, creeping thymes, and creeping phlox (Phlox subulata). |
