The Q&A Archives: Cucumbers

Question: My cucumbers and squash fail to mature and appear to be stunted. They produce flowers but not mature vegetables. Ronald Valinoti Lockeford, CA

Answer: If the plants are otherwise healthy, it's probably a pollination problem. There are a couple of possible solutions: a)hand-pollinate your crop, if there aren't too many plants or b)purchase some "bee scent" to attract pollinators. Bee scent mimics the pheromone bees give off to let other bees know there's a nectar source in the area. It's available from Gardens Alive, 5100 Schenley Place, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025; 812-537-8650. Hope this helps!
