what can i learn about making trees into an arbor?
espallier is using a wall or support, is there a name for "freestanding" espailler? where can i see them? who is knowledgable in this feild?

There are some famous "arches" or tunnels (allee) made of trees in England, but overall this is not commonly done here, perhaps because our climate is not as mild. Unfortunately I am not aware of written instructions specifically for a living espalier style arbor. You should be able to make one by adapting the typical instructions, for example for cordoned fruit trees (pear or apple are traditional choices and do well with this treatment), and train them along a wire and post or trellis structure that has been built in the form of an arbor.
