The Q&A Archives: Annuals for Dry Conditions

Question: I have a flower bed in a sunny location. The rear of the bed is under the house eave and is very dry. What type of flower might do well and look attractive there?

Answer: In the way of annuals, try Cleome, Gaillardia, Portulaca, Verbena, and Tithonia. All will tolerate the ordinarily dry situation. Do try to provide supplemental water when you can, especially when the plants are young. Since you didn't say where you live, I couldn't recommend perennial flowers.
