Paphiopedilum, or Lady's Slipper orchid, is often grown indoors or in cool greenhouses. In general, the mottled-leafed types prefer daytime temperatures of 70-85F and 60-65F at night. They flower in summer. The plain-leafed types prefer cooler growing conditions (65-75F daytime and 55-65F at night). They flower during the winter months.

Provide a fast-draining soil mix by combining equal parts of coarsely ground bark and sandy loam. Keep soil moist at all times. Light needs are less than other orchids, but provide bright, indirect light all year around.
