| I would like to plant an American Flag. I would like the same kind of flower to grow in Red, White, and Blue. Some other accent colors for the border would be nice, too. I would also like to keep the flowers close to the ground, maybe 1 foot tall. Is there any ONE TYPE of flower that comes in packs of all one color? The more colors that are available, the better. If this can not be done with a single type of flower, can you recommend a small flower of each color? Thank you very much! Dan Zunko - gardener at large! |
| Unfortunately, blue is not a very common flower color, so your choices are somewhat limited. Salvia is available in blue ("Victoria"), white ("Porcelain") and red (many types)in similar heights but would be a bit taller than your one foot. Ageratum is available in several short heights in blue, and occasionally can be found in white also, but not in red. Additional sources of short plants in red and white would be petunias, bedding begonias, and for white only, nierembergia and "Star White" zinnia. Marigolds are also available in a creamy white, but are taller than a foot. For the border you might try short varieties of marigolds or the "Pinwheel" zinnia mix which is very colorful and only about a foot tall. Have fun with your project! |
