| I would like to cover a wall with Algerian Ivy (Hedera canariensis) but it is developing very slowly. Does this type of ivy need an acidifier, fertilizer or both? Located one half mile from the ocean in rocky/clay soil, it seems slow and often yellows. |
| Algerian ivy needs more soil moisture than English ivy, but is relatively tolerant of a wide range of soil pH. Rocky, clay soil will make root establishment slow, but once the ivy gets a foothold, it should produce lots of glossy, green foliage. To help your plants along, water deeply once each week and feed every 2-3 weeks with a half-strength diluted liquid fertilizer. With this special treatment your ivy should perk up right away! |
