A book I have on starting plants from seed called "From Bloom to Seed" says that Gerbera seeds are difficult and are subject to damping off. They suggest planting them in vermiculite and bottom watering only. Does that mean I do not use a seed starting mix and just use plain vermiculite? |
Yes, Gerbera have a reputation for difficulty! The important thing is to prevent damping off using a sterile media, such as a soilless mix. Most seed starting mixes have vermiculite in them, but make sure your seed starting mix doesn't have any "real" soil. Plain vermiculite is also a sterile media. Good luck! |
