What are some good varieties of tomatoes to use for patio tomatoes? I want ones that can be grown in large containers and be caged. I would like ones that are a good producer also.

If you have very large containers such as half barrels or at a minimum five gallon buckets, you could grow almost any type of tomato! Cherry types seem to do well in containers, and if space is limited, you might try the SuperTasty Hybrid. Otherwise, the choice is mostly one of personal taste. Indeterminates can be good since they will continue to bear throught the fall; bush sized plants are less likely to overgrow their pots however. In either case, you will need to water and fertilize them generously, and pay special attention to the watering during the hottest part of the summer so they do not become water stressed. This could possibly mean watering twice a day! Using a water holding polymer in the soil can be very helpful in this regard.
