| Rather than cut your Helictotrichon back, try pulling out the withered leaves. Blue Oat Grass should grow to 2'-3' feet in height and remain evergreen. If your plant has full sunshine and ample water during the growing season, most of it should remain bright blue-green in color. The older leaves will eventually wither and die, but they should be replaced with healthy new growth each spring and summer. If you cut the plant back to the ground it may take a full season to renew itself. Try grasping the leaves and pulling straight up. The dead leaves will come away, leaving the healthy foliage in place. |
