I have a portion of my yard where the soil conditions remain wet all year long. Am interested in planting a ground cover here, what do you recommend?

There are different degrees of "wet" so you may need to experiment and see what grows well in that area. You might try a taller groundcover such as the deciduous holly (Ilex verticillata) or the evergreen inkberry shrub (Ilex glabra) or possibly, if the soil is not quite flooded, the shrub dogwoods or Itea or even summersweet clethra. Some perennials to try in very moist or wet soil would include Siberian iris (Iris sibirica), Water Flag iris (Iris pseudacorus), Japanese iris (Iris ensata), and marsh marigolds; in moist soil you might try astilbe, hosta, Joe Pye weed, monarda, asters, and perennial hibiscus. I hope this gives you some ideas.
