The Q&A Archives: Begining Starts For Vegetable Garden

Question: I'm trying to find out when I should start my seeds for growing starter plants to later transplant into the garden. I don't want them to be to big when its time to transplant and yet I want them to be good and strong. Please give any suggestions. Thanks

Answer: It's usually safe to count back 6-8 weeks from your projected last frost of the season and start your seeds indoors then. For instance, if your usual last frost is April 15th, you can start seeds indoors on February 15th. These are just general guidelines, and most seed packages will list suggested indoor sowing dates for each specific seed type. Hope you have a great garden this summer!
