I have retaining wall in the back yard that runs the full length of the yard. It's about 7 feet from the retaining wall to the main 6 foot wall. I'm concerned about root damage to the walls from the trees. Can you suguest some trees to plant in this area? Thank you |
Your concern is certainly a valid one! I'd steer clear of willows and cherry trees, and concentrate on the smaller, better mannered "patio" type trees. Some good choices for the site you describe include Acer circinatum (vine maple), Acer griseum (paperbark maple), Acer palmatum (Japanese maple), Cercidium (Palo Verde), Cercia (redbud), Chionanthus (fringe tree), Erythrina (coral tree), Albizia julibrissin (silk tree), Laburnum (goldenchain), Sophora japoica (pagoda tree) or Acacia stenophylla (shoestring acacia). |
