I am looking for the names of tomatoes and eggplants that can be grwon in containers on a deck. What are their names? How deep does the container need to be? Are there any types of soil and fertilizer that meet the needs of vegetables grown in containers? Any other information would be appreciated!!! Thank you! |
Choose smaller or bush varieties for containers. 'Patio Hybrid' tomato was developed just for containers, but you could also grow determinate varieties like 'Celebrity', 'Sweet Tangerine', or 'Northern Exposure'. For these last 3, choose a large container--one that holds at least 5 gallons. Peppers and eggplants also grow well in containers--any variety will do. Also bush beans like 'Tenderpod', zucchini like 'Burpee Hybrid', and most herbs. Even vining cucumbers can be grown in containers, providing you give them a trellis to climb. Check out the "Garden Talk" insert in the new Burpee Catalog. It contains an article entitled: "Container Magic" for more information about container growing. |
