This is my first time at seed starting, I am very excited about it. What I need to know is there a difference between seed starting potting soil and sterile soilless mix?

The answer to your question depends on what the ingredients are; usually a seed starting mix is also soilless and thus relatively sterile. Seed starting mix usually has finer particles and may have slightly different ingredients, but in my experience the peat-based soilless mixes with vermiculite and perlite added seem to work fine. I think I would select a seed-specific mix if you are just beginning, though. Have fun with your seeds!
